Wanaka Community House is now taking shape with framing going up this month.
The construction of the community house will cost about $3.8 million, which includes the fitout, landscaping and photovoltaic electricity generation. Of this, $2.9 million has already been acquired and the Community House Trust trustees will be renewing their fundraising efforts in the new year to secure the remaining $900,000.
The community house, located next to the Anglican Church on McDougall Street which has leased the land for $1 per year for 35 years, will include offices, meeting rooms and a hall for up to 140 people and is due to open in September 2019. It will host a number of tenants, including Community Networks, Food Bank, Jigsaw and Presbyterian Support, while the main hall, community rooms and drop-in office will be available for casual users.
